Argument: Technology and the human body have limitations that should not be crossed. Humans create the technology and should control it. Once the technology surpasses its limitations, it will completely destroy the human bodies that created it by blurring the lines of reality and fantasy.

With the title of the movie being Judgment Day, can you explain further the religious implications that are in the film? And how do they contribute to the overall argument?
I am not really sure about the religious aspects, but that is a good question. I think that it would have to be the idea that people should not play God. They are creating other “humans,” or they look like humans. As machines, they think for themselves, so they are similar to machines. It is showing that God should be the only one allowed to make humans. So it shows the end of the world and destruction of humankind when humans try to play God. I don’t like looking for religious aspects of things because it confuses me since I don’t know that much about religion. But that is what I think the movie is arguing.
So, your argument makes a lot of sense to me, because I believe that it is valid in today's world. My question is, after seeing Shaina's I,Robot presentation, do you feel her movie could also prove your argument? For some reason when I was watching her presentation, your argument came to mind.
It was very similar to my movie. She argued that when technology gets too strong, it is a bad thing. The character in her movie said “humans are children and they need to save them from themselves.” I think that is what they said. This is very similar to the quote in my movie. “It is human nature to destroy themselves.” Again, I don’t know if that is an exact quote. This is the kind of same thing. Someone needs to protect humans from themselves. The robots don’t look exactly like humans so it is different b/c you can tell who is human and who isn’t. It looks like the beginning of workings on the terminator machines. So the movies are very similar.
Aubrey!!! In both of our movies the advances in technology lead to killing instincts by those who receive them. Do you feel this is an act of greed? Do they kill because they are able to? Is there some other motive behind this like machine instincts that are responsible? Is it a lack of human feeling?
Hey, really good job on your project, especially for being the first to go. Out of the entire list of movies, I'd say your movie was one of my favorites, if not my overall favorite. In my movie, the replicants were designed to develop their own emotions, but in your movie, the good terminator seems to grow attached to John and Sarah. Do you think he began to develop emotions, or was he just doing his job?
Sorry I missed your presentation, but based on your stated argument, do you think that the film is arguing that the technology is the bad thing when it gets out of control, or does it argue that the humans who created the technology are more at fault, and it is the control and greed that humans should avoid? That seems to be a common thread through the films as your brought up in class yesterday, and I was wondering if it applicable to your film also.
Drew-
I think that it has to do with the lack of human feelings. They cannot feel remorse for what they have done. They also cannot feel pain physically, so it is impossible for them to empathize with other people. I think that is what is the problem with these machines.
Mark- That is a good point. I never really thought about it. Except at the end, he said that he understood why people cried but he never could. This means that he couldn’t actually be feeling anything. I cant say that he actually felt something b/c that would ruin my argument. Haha. But I didn’t catch that part, so that is good. I agree, that movie is really good!!
Emma- It’s ok that you didn’t get to see it. I don’t know how good it was because I was really nervous. Haha I feel like it has to do with the human causing the problem. Sarah goes to kill the creator of the technology before he made it, rather than trying to get rid of the terminators. That shows that humans are the problem, since her first instinct was to kill him rather than going to get rid of the technology before it was made. Plus, the terminators are programmed by humans. One is good and the other is bad because humans programmed them this way. This shows that it is the humans that are at fault.
